In 1936, Dale Carnegie wrote the ultimate book on popularity. Teens wanting to know how to become popular can use his tips to become irresistible and famous among peers.

Many teenagers search for that magical formula that will help them to become popular and well liked during their high school years. Though most teens won’t come right out into the open and ask adults or friends how to be popular or how to become popular, many still secretly desire to be irresistible to the opposite gender and famous amongst peers of the same gender.

There are some fundamental techniques that anyone, teenager or adult, can learn that will help to boost the number of friends they have and that will help improve the odds that others will naturally like and love them thus leading them to being irresistible, famous, and popular.

General Popularity Tips for Learning How to Become Popular

There are two general things that teenagers should do to start their path to popularity.

The first is perhaps the hardest. That would be holding their tongue. Nobody likes to be criticized and nobody likes listening to constant complaints. To become popular and irresistible is to be positive and not say negative things toward another person or situation.

The other general principle to becoming popular and famous is to show appreciation towards others.

When someone feels as though they are appreciated they’re more likely to go out of their way to do things for the one showing the appreciation. This, of course, must be sincere appreciation. If it’s fake then it might as well be criticism that’s being spoken. Teachers, parents, friends, and even the shy kid that no one talks to will all benefit from appreciation. If a teen can help people to feel appreciated then there will come a point and time when those people will find it irresistible to return the favor.

Popularity Tips Teens Could Use to Get Peers to Like Them

How can teenagers get their peers to like them? One of the secrets to becoming popular is to be willing to swallow pride, find courage, and interact and communicate with as many of their peers as possible.

Prior to communicating with others, it’s important to remember personal hygiene. The teeth, nails, and hair all need to be well kept. Learning about style and having a few stylish outfits won’t hurt the odds of becoming popular either.

When interacting with new or old friends, smile during the approach and often during the conversation. A real smile befriends others and shows happiness. Depending on the interaction, it can be seen as flirtatious or just plain friendly and many find a good smile irresistible.

Make an attempt to remember people’s names. People love to hear their own name being spoken as it symbolizes genuine interest. Get a new person’s name at the start of the conversation and memorize it quickly.

When teens come across someone they know, even if they’ve only met once for a brief period of time, they can rush up to the person, greet them by name and with a smile, and proclaim how nice it is to see them. After the quick greeting a simple “I’m sorry, _____ is waiting for me so I have to get going” is all that’s needed to break away from the interaction and get on with life. This single act, if done properly, can boost popularity and fame faster than almost any other.

A teenager that is seeking to become popular and irresistible should make an attempt to really be interested in other people and what they’re saying. Learning to listen is one of the most important life skills anyone can learn. Another important life skill is encouraging others to talk about things which they’re interested in. Showing interest and encouraging others to talk is as simple as asking questions about the topics that others find interesting.

During conversations seek out appropriate times to give genuine compliments. When all this is applied correctly people start to feel an irresistible feeling of like toward the one using these principles and techniques and, once again, popularity starts to rise.

Additional Tips to Aid Teens on Their Quest for Popularity and Fame

Need additional tips for learning how to become popular? Try these:

  • Avoid arguments, as arguing typically doesn’t get people anywhere.
  • Let others believe they are always right, for it helps them to feel special.
  • Admit to and take the consequences for personal mistakes, as it creates respect.
  • Talk about things which others will agree on, for it keeps the mood upbeat and happy.
  • Talk about the self only when asked and only when there is something important to say, for nobody finds arrogant people, gossipers, and "know it alls" to be irresistible.
  • Always attempt to see things from the others point of view, as this helps to keep both feet on the ground.
  • Learn to be sympathetic and empathic to all, no matter who they are as sooner or later the favor will be returned.
  • Know when to stand up for a cause and when to drop it, because popular people know how to choose their battles carefully. If the battle is won that is all great and wonderful, but if it’s lost popularity typically decreases.
  • After a strong connection is made with others, challenge them in some way. People typically respond to challenges because they want others to know they can do it and they can be counted on.

In summary, the most important tips to learning how to become popular include being positive and making others feel as though they are special and important. This can then be used to persuade others in usually an unlimited number of ways. Additionally, by following these tips a teenager may soon find they have a large number of friends, receive more phone calls, and are well liked by many.
